Dual Credit Application Information
The Howard College Dual Credit Application process has gotten easier! See below.
Go to http://www.applytexas.org
- Students will fill out the apply Texas Common Application. There is a video to help out with that (See below, after these instructions.) STUDENTS MUST INCLUDE THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER WHEN FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION! Also, please make sure to type the CORRECT social security number in. On Apply Texas, this is not a required field, HOWEVER, for the Dual Credit Application, if the social is not entered, the application may NOT process.
- After completing the application and it shows to have submitted to Howard College, students will need to fill out the Dual Credit Registration Packet.
- New students will need these completed forms AND a High School Transcript turned in to register (also, if taking any classes on a Howard College Campus-a BM Shot record will be needed.)
- After all paperwork and online application has been processed, we can EMAIL YOU (the counselor or designated ISD representative) A STATEMENT TO GIVE TO STUDENTS. Statements are NOT mailed. Students can sign in to their Campus Connect account and PRINT their statements (which is how all other students get their bills) but at this point, to make it easier on the students, if we register them, we can email you a statement to give to the student.
RETURNING CURRENTLY REGISTERED DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS
They will need to fill out the Dual Credit Registration Packet.
Apply Texas - Dual Credit Application Process Part One
NOTE: This Video has NO Sound, only text, also, there may be some slight differences as ApplyTexas updates at times.
Apply Texas Dual Credit Details
NOTE: Not ALL steps are included in this example, however, this touches on specifics needed for the HC Dual Credit Program. For more details, watch the video above or contact us with questions. The following and the video are EXAMPLES and all info should be filled out to each specific student's information.
1: Make sure students type in LEGAL names, not "nick" names. Also, it is best if they fill in ALL information... not just the REQUIRED info.
2: An email address is REQUIRED for Apply Texas.
3: The PERMANENT Address is the MAILING ADDRESS.
4: Be sure students WRITE DOWN their password. They can use this same application process when they apply to other Texas Colleges. A good idea is to make a sheet to add to the students file with login and password information for applytexas. Password must be between 8 and 12 characters and have at least one number. They will also need to set the Password reset questions.
5: After information is saved, CLICK MY APPLICATIONS to start a new Application.
6: Click Start a New Blank Application.
7: Click Create a Two Year College Admissions Application.
8: Search for a college from the alphabetical list. Select Howard County Community College District (Big Spring.) This is for ALL Howard College classes, even if the class is at your High School Campus, or the class is located on another Howard College Site, like San Angelo, Lamesa or SWCID.
9: Select the semester your student (or you) would be starting Dual Credit classes. In the example below, the student is starting in the Fall of 2015.
10: For Major - have all ACADEMIC students (students taking courses that require TSI scores) select General Studies Associate Of Arts. This gives them more choices when enrolling in classes. CTE or Certificate students JUST taking CTE courses (IE: Cosmo, CNA, CRIJ, WLDG, Etc.) should pick the certificate program they are wanting.
11: Social Security number is MANDATORY. Also make sure students type in their correct number. If no social is provided application will not process.
12: After the previous part is submitted, applytexas may change some of your answers to a different format. If so, you may get the following screen. If you do, and the info is ok, click the box that says Yes, my .... is correct and any other boxes that need a check.
13: Click the find Your School button to select your High School.
14: Type in as much info as you can, then submit.
15: Click the circle before your High School to select it, then submit. If not there, close window and search again.
16: Enter expected graduation Month and Year. Then click No for home schooled (if you are attending an ISD and not a home school.)
17: Most will not have any additional colleges or universities. If you attended another DC program at a previous ISD, you might need to fill this part out, most will probably leave it blank.
18: Dual Credit students NEED TO SELECT DUAL CREDIT... from this pop down list. Most will also answer no to number 1, Did you take Tech Prep.
19: If you are taking academic classes (at all) select EARN CREDITS FOR TRANSFER. If you are ONLY taking CTE Tech classes, select Earn A Certificate.
20: NOTE: There are several residency questions now. Answer them accordingly. The system will let you know if there is anything you need to correct before it allows you to continue.
When you get to custom questions for this institution (page 5 of 5) Select the Big Spring Campus for all UNLESS you are taking DC classes at Central, Lakeview or The TLC inside the city of San Angelo. If you are taking courses at one of those (or are home schooled INSIDE the city of San Angelo city limits) select San Angelo.
21: Read and click the box before all three statements accepting that you have read and agree to all three. (Required to submit.)
22: Click SUBMIT MY APPLICATION NOW to submit.
23: When you see this screen (or similar) you are done! You will then need to fill out the Application/Agreement Form and the Schedule Card/Records Release form. Get those forms filled out and signed. Get those along with a high school transcript, and TSI scores needed (for academic courses. Also, for all courses on a HC campus you also need to include current BM shot record.) to the dual credit department and we will see about getting you enrolled!
